I really love the Barca program. I have 3 kids playing in it. But if that is really true, then I agree. It's better to play 09s Ina really high level tournament for their age than to just put them against bigger, older kids. |
Very true. Also, rather than have a big roster in one age group, they have multiple rosters so each team has a small roster. Plenty of game time for all the players. |
To get into high level tournaments, you need got soccer points. For a new club, it is difficult to accumulate enough points, especially since their teams did not play in a league the first year of existence. |
I actually lget why they do this. There are only a couple 09s that are good enough to play with 08 or 07s, so it’s a good challenge for these kids to play up with others at their development level. If there was an entire team of 09s at this level then I’m sure they’d play together. But kids don’t develop always according to their ages. And an early 09 isn’t that off from a late 07. I’ve seen Barca do this now with my kids. Put them with a better team for a while to challenge and evaluate them, then drop them down to give them a chance to be a leader on the field, gain confidence, then challenge them again. Never let them get too comfortable. It’s definitly a different approach than we (and the players) are used to but I like it now |

I must say that what is very impressive about Barca is their PR on this forum.
Reading this thread, it seems to me, however, that for all the good things being said about the processes, the results are not that good (no need to remind me that for any losing Barca team in an age group there is another one doing much better somewhere). I value possession, but it seems more late-period Wenger (all style and no teeth) than Guardiiola Man City. |
Barca has a strong 09 boys team. It just won its group in the top division of Battlefield tournament. |
| I must say what is impressive is the number of Barca haters on this forum. The number of replies in this thread says a lot. seems to be a lot of people rooting against them |
| I’ve watched that u9 team at practices. They are good |
An early 09 might not be that far off from a late 07, but 07 teams aren't full of late 07s. |
DP here. I agree that it is a bit silly to compare u9 practices, but I don't think that the PP compared their practices to other clubs. I have also seen this U9 team practice and play games since I have kids at Barca. This team consistently plays out of the back and consistently puts together strings of five or more passes even when pressed hard by other teams. Their ball movement and ability to exploit space is really impressive for their age. |
I don’t think there are many “haters” at all. Just realists. |
Just one "realist" with multiple anonymous posts that likes to refer to himself in plural. |
| If you were truly a realist, you would take the good with the bad. But you’re not. Instead you’re talking smack about U9s. Congratulations |
| Maybe report it and ask the Admin to check for sock puppeting. Supposedly he has some way he can check for that? |

I have looked at the Barca program. It's pure quality. They are EDP now. With time, their top teams will filter into more and more competitive leagues. It's a very dynamic curriculum. Time will see the program continue to grow, as with all solid programs, they always do.
I wouldn't be surprised if they end up in the DA in the end, with all the top level clubs. The curriculum is solid, consistent across teams (which NEVER happens) and the coaches work as a team. It's impressive, no question about it. |
