GOP endorsed school board candidates

Blue Virginia is a trash site run by a slimy sycophant who sucks up to every Democrat whose name isn’t Chap Petersen. Zero credibility.

As for the NBC article, thanks for making clear the only issue that matters to some local Ds are trans issues. Some of us care more about academics than providing biological males with access to girls bathrooms.

Most of this thread has been dominated by far left blue Virginia types, who have no arguments or positions to defend, only slurs and insults.

I am not sure that this thread is going the way the left wing activists intended. Moderates tend to not like being insulted by politicsl activists nor are they big fans of insults as a substitute for debate of ideas.

The funny thing is everyone knows the Democrats will almost surely retain a majority on the SB. But people like OP are so insistent on having total control and squelching any competing perspectives that they immediately call people “stupid” and pepper them with other insults when anyone suggests some contrary views might actually lead to better outcomes. They are big fans of diversity, except when it might be diversity of opinion.

I have no doubt the OP is the same poster who complained on Website Feedback about all the “lies” on this thread. “Lies” meaning anything she doesn’t agree with and wants to silence. That’s the SB/Democrats’ mentality in a nutshell.

I’m not OP but I have called out numerous Republican lies on this thread.

Lies are lies. Please give an example of a comment that was inaccurately called a lie. You have yet to provide a single example.

If you don’t like me calling out lies, then stop lying. Hit dog will holler.

Elizabeth Schultz was a great school board rep for the era when school boards focused on academics, education, facilities and zoning. That is not the school board we have any longer.

Well said.

“The petty politics of individual board members wins the day every time instead of good common business sense and policy approach and informed decision-making,” Schultz said. “I serve the people who elected me and even the people who didn’t.”

WTF are you even talking about? The PP *correctly* stated that you/the OP/other unhinged LWNJs keep claiming there are lies being told on this thread - but you have yet to state what “lies” you’re talking about. Which makes YOU the liar.

Diversity of thought is fine when it’s not an irrational disruptor trying to tear everything down. Please refer to Republicans in Congress. We don’t need chaos on the school board.

Or another Elizabeth Schultz.

Um… we currently have an entire SB of “irrational disrupters” - you simply align yourself with irrational disrupters with whom you agree. An Elizabeth Schultz is exactly what we need in the face of the complete LWNJ domination on our SB.

DEI is not superceding every other initiative and program in the district. That's a talking point. Not a fact.

It is the cause of dropping homework, lowering standards for assignments, switching to standards based grading, etc. For dropping the science fair, dropping service requirements for middle school, etc. All because some students cannot or do not do it. So schools have dropped or lowered standards and requirements. For equity.

+1. Pretty much every post trying to defend DEI is a 1 liner screaming LIES or STOP IT without acknowledging the fully laid out concerns by parents against DEI overtaking other priorities. Anyway I think objective readers of this thread can tell which posters are reasonable and which ones aren’t. I’m definitely not spending my time trying to convince the deep DEI faithful. Will be voting Republican in November.

I won’t be voting for Republican SB candidates so much as voting against the Democrats on the SB who have been awful for years, but especially for the last four. They are just despicable - incompetent, hypocritical, virtue-signaling failures at everything they’ve touched.

Absolutely agree.

+1. I’ll be doing the same. Just the the anti-Trump voters in 2020. They didn’t vote for Biden; they voted against Trump. I will vote against the current SB.

I voted for Biden; I'll vote for him again. I think he's done excellent work. I didn't just vote anti-Trump. I would never, ever vote for one of the GOP SB candidates listed. I mean, you have a candidate like Moon as the top Democratic endorsed SB candidate. He's always focused on academics, he's got a ton of experience, and he's moderate. My guess is that you're just a pro-GOP person who thinks they can influence other "moderate" people by pretending to hold whatever position you think they hold. Fortunately the majority of educated people in Fairfax have more sense to fall for your shtick.

DP. Moon is fine. Telling, though, that the FCDC rewarded him for years of thoughtful and moderate service in 2019 by denying him an endorsement. It took four years of Abrar Omeish regularly embarrassing herself and the local Democrats for them to give him another chance.

Telling also that they endorsed him now--they learned from their earlier mistake. I was disappointed that he didn't have the endorsement earlier, and I would have voted for him if he ran. But I can critique the Dem SB/FCDC without running to a far worse option.

You can remain a lemming but the reality is that most of the current FCDC-endorsed candidates are more like Omeish (inexperienced ideologues) than Moon (who wasn’t far left enough to make the cut four years ago).

And the other available candidates? Worse.

Disagree.

Moon is a decent guy, although he’s been kicked around so much by the local Democrats over the years that he probably has Stockholm Syndrome at this point.

No one knows why Ryan McElveen is running again. He couldn’t have acted more bored and disinterested the last couple of years he was on the board. He hasn’t found another office he could win (he was a distant third in the BOS primary), but this a step back for him.

And there’s rarely been a bigger flake running for local office than Kyle McDaniel. Didn’t like him as a Republican? Fine, he’ll repackage himself as a far-left Democratic. Too boring as a white bread dad? Fine, he’ll declare that he’s a bisexual ally and close friend of Robert Rigby and the rest of the Liberty Fund core team. No idea what persona he’ll adopt if he’s elected.

David and AuCoin are far, far better choices for the other two at-large slots.

Davis and Aucoin? The republicans ? No thanks.

Yes, thanks. We need more diversity of thought on the School Board. If we’d had some over the past four years it’s unlikely FCPS’s reputation would have declined as much as it has.

So republicans are whining for a free seat because they can’t win around here? Hard pass.

The past four years have underscored the need for a school board that isn’t a one-party circle jerk.

Your response is moronic.

The GOP trolls on here are becoming more and more unhinged. Thats probably a good sign for the Democrats. Enjoy 4 more years of a 12-0 democratic school board.

As an immigrant from an ex-communist country, I have to tell you that it is never a good idea to have a 1-party system. Do you need more explanation?

Are you stupid? Having a full Democratic school board is not a one party system.

You told an immigrant that he/she is stupid and that is your explanation for how a 12 person school board made up of 100% of one party is not effectively a 1-party system? That is not a very smart explanation.

OP here. You’re dumber than rocks. I’m an independent and have voted GOP for SB before but if your main argument for why I should vote Republican this year is because we can’t have a “one-party system,” I’m just gonna vote Democrat.

A one party system would mean it’s only Democrats on the ballot. Newsflash: there are Republicans on the ballot too! And independents. But you all don’t seem to have anything to talk about besides “THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS.”

I want to hear about academics! I met Saundra Davis at a back to school night and she told me she wants to stop indoctrination in our schools. What the flip is she talking about? Girl please just be for real and talk about what your plans are to address overcrowding, literacy, teacher shortages etc.

So sad. Thought she might have been a possibility given everyone here calling her a moderate. I’m so disappointed that the Republicans couldn’t muster up some moderate candidates.

Republicans repel moderates with their current extremist positions.

Right, which is why so many moderates are completely disgusted with our current extremist SB. Talk about repellent.

You'd call anything that challenges the pet projects of the all-D School Board an "irrational disruption."

It would have been great to have Elizabeth Schultz or, indeed, anyone who wasn't a rubber-stamp Democrat around the last four years to challenge the School Board's decisions (or lack thereof) around:

Keeping schools closed so long when other jurisdictions had successfully re-opened; funding an unnecessary new elementary school in Dunn Loring to save a dog park at Blake Lane; green-lighting a "social justice" academy at Lewis HS when the enrollment was cratering due to pupil placements for AP; ignoring the years-long overcrowding at Chantilly HS and McLean HS; paying Ibram Kendi $20K for a vapid, one-hour canned speech on "anti-racism"; reducing the length of time speakers could speak at School Board meetings from three to two minutes and ceasing to show their faces as they delivered their remarks; prioritizing the expansion of the DEI staff at Gatehouse over reducing classroom sizes at FCPS schools; spending more time discussing the merits of competing versions of a largely meaningless "Truth in Education" resolution than was spent discussing the annual Capital Improvement Program; and requesting larger transfers to FCPS from the Board of Supervisors even after FCPS enrollment declined by almost 10,000 students.

None of these things received adequate attention. In some cases, they received virtually no attention at all. And a primary cause was the backroom deals and lack of transparency that invariably arises when all of the School Board is from the same party. John Lewis called challenges to the status quo "good trouble," but you want to dismiss it as "chaos."

+1. People seem to forget that school board members don’t just vote on stuff, they are also supposed to respond to community concerns. Things people like Elizabeth Schultz did terrible job at!

Elizabeth Schultz was actually one of the best representstives for responding to community concerns. She was very responsive and regularly advocated for people in her district. People didn't like her non- fcps related trumpy type positions. But strictly on school related issues, she was fantastic.

One example is the Daventry rezoning. She worked with the Daventry families to help eliminate the handful of West Springfield Elementary zoned streets that were a split feeder to Lewis (zoned for Irving for middle school). Most of the women who worked with Elizabeth Schultz on that rezoning project were very much not from her political party and likely voted for Laura Jane in the subsequent election, but she put constituents before party politics and helped them advance the rezoning of their streets.

Elizabeth Schultz was a good school board member who got booted over anti trump sentiment and alsl McDaniels pulling just enough republican votes to tip the vote to Cohen. In any other year pre trump, Schultz would have been reelected easily. She was a good school board member, in the right place but at the wrong time.

She was absolutely horrible.

Most voters do NOT want another pro-White nationalist and anti-LBGQT school board member.

Schultz is RWNJ who pushed white nationalist, antisemitic, anti-trans trash. FCPS does not need more of that.

Of course that’s not the “only issue that matters”.

I am the OP of this thread. Haven't checked in a while and didn't realize that the thread was still going.

For the record: I see that someone else has been posting as "OP" and that others now think that this whole thread was a set-up to promote the old school board.

I have never understood the point of this kind of thing and just want to say that my original questions were totally sincere and that I remain open to voting with candidates endorsed by either party. I learned quite a bit from the thread so the earnest answers helped me find some names to research. I was also turned off by a lot of posts, so that helped, too.
