How much did you pay for your taxes?

Finally met with the accountant today and we were quoted between $2,000 - $2,500... a lot happened on 2016!

I do it myself. This includes lots of short term trades, long term investments, mortgage, 529s, regular income from multiple sources. I use a regular software and buy the premium edition. I spend about 4-6 hours a year on taxes. What prevents people from doing it yourself?

Turbotax. $70 or whatever. Includes audit protection. We have complicated ones too. Had a baby, sold stock, have a rental, nanny taxes, investments. It took three weekend evenings about 2 hrs each.

We use Tax Act to do it ourselves and pay about $50. Our return includes investments, mortgage, child care costs, and a small business.

Ours is around $1500. One self employed, one business owner, 3 state tax returns. I used to do it with turbo tax but it's gotten just too complicated.

Why not at least say how much you paid for the premium version (since that's what OP was asking, how much you paid) in addition to judging everyone?

I do taxes myself (without software), but I don't have a hard time seeing why someone else would pay a few hundred dollars to save 4-6 hours/year.

Our accountant charged us $400 to do ours.

Two working parents (one who works on salary plus commission), kid in preschool, mortgage, 529, etc.

PP here. I did not mean to sound judgmental but I was honestly curious since it doesn't seem like it is hard if you use software. I paid 50 for tax act. My dad does it by hand and he has investment properties too because he thinks the software is too complicated for him because he is not very computer savvy.

$850. She reduced her invoice by $400 as she had quoted us for 3-5 hours, it took longer.

One working spouse one SAHM, trust and RSU's involved.

Whatever TurboTax costs this year.

$2500
We each have 1099s and wife has K1s. Not that they're difficult but they seem to add a cost to each form they do!
Lowests we found was $1250.
