So I am finally taking the plunge and taking my 9 year old son to Cape Cod. We'll be staying in Hyannis, getting a room in a little motel.
I have 6 days to fill. Please load me up with ideas. |

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago that had lots of great ideas for the mid-Cape. There is plenty to do.
If you haven't already booked your stay I would strongly recommend staying somewhere other than Hyannis. Any of the smaller towns will be more charming and Cape Cod-dy. Hyannis is a bit commercial. Try Chatham, Harwich, Osterville, Centerville, Brewster, Dennis. |

Thanks, I'll check the previous thread.
Although (it may just be me) I am having serious trouble pulling up old threads on DCUM with the search tool. Anyway, thanks! |
| We go to Falmouth every year which is lovely, too. Have not been to Hyannis in a long time, but I think the Cape Cod Potato Chip factory is there! |

13:56 here - I tried searching for the thread and can't find it either - too bad because it had some great ideas. Anyway, here are a couple:
- beaches (obvious), but try the seashore beaches (Coast Guard Beach will be the closest) or Nauset beach in Orleans. The Hyannis beaches are Sound beaches rather than ocean beaches. - day trip to MV or Nantucket. Lots of fun. You can rent bikes on MV to get around. Nantucket is mostly walkable. - seal watch (Chatham) or whale watch (P'town or Hyannis) - waterbiking at Nickerson State Park (Jack's rentals) - kayaking - lots of places rent kayaks - Cape Cod baseball league if you are there before the season ends - games are free - Chatham band concert on Friday nights |
| Okay, I'm just going to print out your post and start booking things. Thanks very much. |

You should check out the website below. I second the whale watch recommendations (one leaves out of Barnstable harbor) and the Cape League games (there's a team in Hyannis) - you might also try Plimouth Plantation and the Mayflower.
