Quick trip between jobs

Anonymous
I am changing jobs in a few weeks and will have about one week off. DWand I would like to take a trip somewhere and are looking for suggestions. I've traveled extensively (most of Western Europe, several countries in Central and South America) but DW has not. We would like to go somewhere fun but not typical (ie, no Paris or London) with a mixture of sightseeing and relaxation (no Caribbean/Mexico).. Thailand and Bali are dream destinations but I'm worried we wouldn't have enough time to make the trips worthwhile. Would 4-5 nights in either be enough,, or should we find something closer? We're based on the west coast so the trips would be slightly shorter than coming from DC.

If those are out, what else would people recommend? We've been to Hawaii, which otherwise seems like the obvious choice.

Brazil?

Have you been to all of the Hawaiian islands?

OP here. I've been to Brazil and DW does not want to go unfortunately. We've been to Maui and Honolulu.

If you only have four / five days max and are coming from the West Coast, what about one of the great national parks in America? Or Alaska? Grand Canyon / Sedona etc? Or up to Canada to Vancouver and environs?

I'm hesitant to go too far because you'd spend so much time in the plane. That's why even HK or Tokyo as city-break destinations might be too far away, even though they are perfect for 4-5 days. On the other hand, if you're comfortable with a long flight, what the heck. Go!

How about Costa Rica?

These are great suggestions; thank you!

South of France, Amalfi Coast etc will be still cold in April so no beach weather but that means not as crowded.

Southern Spain! Sevilla with day trips to The Alhambra in Granada, or to Cordoba. Or Barcelona.
Great food, interesting architecture and art, relaxing atmosphere.

Enjoy!!!
