Do you "celebrate" St. Patrick's Day with your kids?

I thought it was an excuse for Americans to binge drink. But now my FB feed has all these kids dressed in green. Am I supposed to celebrate this day with my kids?

Kids have been wearing green to school on 3/17 at least since I was in elementary--about 32 years ago.

I wore green; my DS didn't. He did some St Pat's activities at school, but we didn't do anything special at home except eat salmon, green beans, and mint chip ice cream.

No. How is it even a holiday to begin with? Unless you are irish?

The kids wore green to school. No other "celebration" was had.

+1

Younger one wore green. 6th grader did not.

Yes, but spouse is Irish. It's silly, but it helps remind them of the connection to the half of the family we don't get to see very often.

Is making a leprechaun trap or coloring toilet water green really celebrating a saint's day?

He wasn't even Irish.

We had an event at DD school so I had a chance to see participation rate and 3/4 of students and nearly all teachers were wearing a lot of green. No party, just a fun day. We are aware of the day and I'd do more if I were more organized. Fun for kids and its just a nice, no gifts, sweet day

Kids wore green, DD wore a special shamrock headband, they made leperchaun traps, and we left them glad chocolate coins.

Kids wore green.

Leprechaun ransacked our family room and left little gifts. He also peed green in the toilet.

Green breakfast, and green lunch.

Our kids love St. Patrick's day, and we aren't sure why. We only started doing this after our second child was very disappointed that the leprechaun didn't visit. I guess he heard about it at school? We aren't Irish, and my DH is Jewish. I'm sure his teachers at the Jewish preschool were caught off guard by my kid's outfit, green beads, and green lunch.
