that's it, I'm switching to gmail

I've had a yahoo account for what seems like forever. I've been getting sick of the news headlines they post when I log onto my account - they'll often slip in something seemingly for no reason other than to shock. I went to go check my email, and of the 5 or so headlines they list under "top stories" right after I've logged in is about the grisliest headline I've seen yet. What the hell? I just wanted to read my email, and now I have to go get my brain bleached.

in their defense, it looks like an AP story. don't know if the headline came from AP or yahoo....

gmail has its problems.

I think Yahoo keeps track of what sites we visit on the internet and puts relevant stories on our home pages. (I have three different email accounts and get three different versions of top new stories.) That said, it's not their fault the crime is so freakin gruesome but I felt the same way, also "why did I click on that...."

So don't leave us hanging... What is the headline?

OP here. Interesting! I think I read a variety of stories, so I'm surprised that this topic would show up on my home page. I hate stories like this, although admittedly, I will usually click on the story after reading the headline. Sometimes the headline is so disturbing that I have to find out what happened, because I think somehow it will haunt me less if I know the specifics.

If you think that's bad... My DH still uses AOL for his private mail and the stories are either of the shock and horror persuasion aimed at people like my aunt, who will call me up to say: "Did you hear about the little boy who got decapitated..." or fashion tips (always woefully outdated and trite) or celebrity gossip. I keep teasing that he needs to get with the "nineties" and move to gmail, but to be fair, I have a gmail account and think it's annoying as well.

OP again. I can't post it, because it's too disgusting.

Go to the AP top stories news page here and look for the most horrifying news story there:

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/fronts/HOME?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME

Trust me, you'll know when you see it.

SERIOUSLY DISTURBING -- DO NOT READ BELOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SERIOUSLY DISTURBED ----

On one of my yahoo pages it said, "Aunt says mother had psychiatric problems" (the one I clicked on) and on the other one it said, "Mother ate baby's brain".... I kid you not. It's a gruesome story.

What are the problems with gmail?

Yeah, I could have lived my whole life without ever having to see that story.
Anonymous
Well it's not there now. Maybe someone sympathized. Probably not though.

I logged on to yahoo again, and the original story I complained about is gone. Unfortunately, there's another disturbing tragedy headline in its place. Yahoo can bite me.
