| Don't want to pay them to be able to afford to live in the city, and don't have any regard for their safe commute. If it wasn't for the students I believe many would quit. |
| Mayor's call, not DCPS |
I doubt it. They are paid well, and every year our school gets several coming from charters schools for the increased pay, more flexibility in the classroom and a more stable learning environment. |
And then they leave and go back to charter. Three charter teachers began the school year at my school and have already quit. |
| My son's teacher lives out in the burbs and is not coming in and I completely support her decision. It's horrible out there right now and we have a one mile trek. |
Not the ones I have talked to, in fact one of our new teachers said "I will never leave DCPS" - although I think he was mostly happy to get out of a KIPP learning environment. |
Well at least KIPP cared enough about their students and staff to close today. |
| You'd think in a thread about teaching and education there would not be an incorrect usage of "it's." |
+1 DS teacher just sent out a message saying she's not coming in. |
Actually, it's OSSE, DCPS and the Mayor. OSSE should have made them close. If OSSE can't run school buses, which I'm sure they can't, the schools must close. Not sure what happened today. |
A school bus drove down my street a little bit ago actually. It was going slow, but it made it. |
| DC teachers are paid well compared to nearby school districts. |
Seriously. Didn't even bother to read OP's post after the subject line. |
| My sons teacher who lives out in the burbs stayed in a hotel last night in the city; very committed. Love her! |
On her own dime. Yeah, I was once like that. |
