I want to find the name of a song and it's driving me crazy

A famous violin concerto or symphony... yet I've trawled Youtube and can't find the one I have in mind. The melody I remember may not be at the beginning of the piece, actually, which makes it even harder.
Ugh. Hummed it to my husband and he had no clue.

What can I do?!

Where and in what context did you last hear it? Do you think it sounds more 18c or 19c? Might it be Vivaldi?

try humming it to shazam?

I've used midomi.com to hum the song into the microphone and most times it has been able to find it for me.

You're really just going to start spitting out the names of random classical pieces? It's going to be a very long list. Also, Pachelbel's canon is a repetitive piece (as are all canons) so if you've heard one part of it, you've heard it all. Also, even someone who doesn't know classical music knows this piece.

Try a few of the websites where you can hum it. You need to be decently in tune and have at least 10 seconds of the song.

When you find out what it is, come back and let us know.

What movie was it in? That can narrow it down.

It's the hook in Blues Traveler's song "Hook."

I think the solution is for OP to post a recording of herself to SoundCloud!

Where did you hear it? You can try googling that combo, even if it's a commercial. How do you know it's famous? If by chance you heard it on the local classical music station, WETA, they have a daily playlist.

PS please post back if you figure it out. I love classical music and for some reason very curious!
