everyone says they can always get a nap out of a car ride but my baby screams the entire car ride-- she has screamed for an entire hour long car ride. anyone else?
How old is your child? My kids had reflux as babies and I couldn't put them in car seats at all for the first 6 months of their lives. Luckily I lived in the city so I was able to babywear them to all their appointments, etc.
Yes mine hates the car seat. We walked/Metroed/bussed everywhere!
How old? Are they still in the infant bucket seat? My DS wasn't crazy about the bucket but he did fine in a convertible. We switched him to the convertible car seat at 6 months old.
Has she been checked for a tongue tie? Hating the car seat is one of the hallmark issues of tongue tied babies
Yes and it was horrible (she is 9 years old now). The first 12 weeks of her life she screamed bloody murder the entire ride so we never went anywhere b/c it was so awful to listen to. We switched her to a Britax Roundabout thinking maybe the less "bent" feeling would help. It helped a bit. By around 4 months she would be fine for about an hour; we rarely went anywhere father than that anyway.
Yup. No real suggestions (mine was in a convertible from birth, FWIW-- and one of us almost always rode in back)-- she just grew out of it. By 6 months, she could do 20 minutes without freaking out. By about a year, she was almost always okay with car rides.

Yes, but only when we still had the infant head insert. When we took that out, she felt much better.
|
Interesting! Why is that? |
My baby hated the carseat until about 8 months when I sat in the back with her on a long trip. We spent the first 5-6 months with her screaming bloody murder for the entirety of most drives. Sometimes, she would wear herself out and fall asleep. Then, I would stop at a stop sign or traffic light and the screaming would begin again. Awful... and nothing made a difference until she was older... and more easily distracted.
Yep...still going strong at 15 months. Think it might get better when we switch car seat forward facing, but that's a long ways off.
Mine screamed for an entire 5 hour trip once. Switched to a convertible at 4 months hoping it would help, NOPE. At 14 months it's slightly better because I can bargain with her a little. You hate being strapped in? What about a round of Twinkle Twinkle or some freeze dried fruit? But yeah, it ma just be time and patience.

Yes, mine did until he was about 1 year. It was horrible. Feeding him mum mums and playing kids music (Laurie Berkner Band is his favorite) helped a little. Also putting in one of those mirrors so he can see you is somewhat helpful.
At 9 months I tried turning his carseat forward facing, and that didn't even help and I also felt too nervous about the safety issue, so we went back to rear facing. It sucks. My DS cried every night home from daycare for months and months. Then one day it just stopped. He grew out of it. Yours will too, hopefully! |
The last baby that I knew that cried in the car seat like that had a fractured tailbone
Yes my DS screamed a lot during car rides. There was nothing medically wrong he just did not like the car seat. I tried different inclines, it seemed the more upright position helped a bit. It was painful to listen to I just tried to reduce the car trips. Luckily I had a nanny when he was you ger so he didn't have to go out every day. I think it stopped around 12 to 15 months.
