I tried posting some version of this in General Parenting, but received no responses.
Does anyone know of any "pre"-preschool classes - whether called Getting Ready for Preschool, or something else. Basically - classes for 2 y.o. that are 1-2 hours once or twice a week with (or w/o) parent/caregiver present. I know that JCC has something like that that goes up to 24 months. I have heard of a similar program at Beanstalk Montessori. Are there any others? (????) |
NCYC, Washington Hebrew? Franklin Montessori have a 2 year old program, but it's 5 days a week. |
If you're in Montgomery County (or somewhere that's close to Montgomery County) the recreation department offers "tiny tots" classes. My DC and I took Funfit, which is really fun. Everyone gathers in a circle, there's the hello song (which I still remember fondly), a story with things to clap or pat along to, some walking and/or running in a circle, "obstacle course," then distribution of percussion instruments and a parade. Parents attend with kids. We also took a rec department art class at the Leland Community center and enjoyed open gym there afterwards. |
Adas Israel, Temple Sinai, and Washington Hebrew all have Mommy and Me classes where you attend with your toddler a few times a week.
If you want to do a more organized playgroup, there's Little Graces, Blue Igloo, and InTown, but I'm pretty sure the deadlines have passed to apply. We attended Little Graces twice a week and I thought it was a perfect preparation for preschool for this upcoming fall. I also did get a flyer on my car while I was at Turtle Park about a new organized playgroup called Playgroup for Friends, which is very similar - you might be able to get in easier since they seem to have started up recently. |
Kidville has something like this. There are also several hyper-organized playgroups in the NW DC area that serve the same purpose. I'm thinking blue igloo, little graces, etc. |
Country Day in McLean has a Mommy and Me that preps kids for preschool and it is an impressive program. My son enjoyed it. Green Acres in Great Falls has one too, though I don't know much about it. Rodef Shalom in Falls Church has one that I'm told is great for girls, but not ideal for high energy boys. You could also try a bunch of community center tot classes just to get your child used to a group setting, circle time and typical preschool activities such as art and music. |
I did Mommy and Me and Loved it!!! |
I think that this poster is referring to Village Green in Great Falls. We're enrolled for their Mommy and Me program starting in Sept. |
Is there a Mommy and Me in Bethesda? |
|
I was referred to Jonas Tree House. At least that was what I think it was called. |
Yes, there is one at Glen Echo, called playgroup in the park. |
