If your ES does a talent show

Asking about an elementary school talent show--how many rehearsals do they have leading up to the show? I'm trying to get a sense of what's normal, because I think our school goes a bit overboard with too many rehearsals.

Torturous nonsense. I banned my kid from auditioning and we will not be sitting through 3 hours of gymnastics and kids singing out of tune.

Anything else at school is fine. This is just wrong on so many levels.

Ours had 1-2 afternoons of auditions and 2-3 rehearsal/runthroughs. It was mainly individual acts, and some were quite good. The group numbers Might have required extra time. Too many performances and bad behavior in the audience made it unbearable

None. But it doesn't really have try-outs or cuts either. The kids do their thing for the Head of School and she gives them a little feedback about how to make it better. The show is very informal and every act is short and sweet. No talent except for one kid who can really play the piano. The whole thing lasts maybe an hour. My kid will play his ukulele this year.

Ours is 1x a week for 2 months before the show! It's awful, I haven't let my kids do it but they think I'm mean because all their friends moms cave.

No organized rehearsals. Parents register their children for a group or individual act. It's up to the parents to make sure their child is prepared and to rehearse child or group as they deem fit.

There are usually a handful of children who know how to play an instrument or sing. The cheerleading/dance squad does a good job. Group musical numbers/skits are a mixed bag, but sometimes parents do a great job rehearsing kids only a few times (for example, "Hard Knock Life").

No rehearsals and no cuts. It is a variety show- not a talent show. ? They do have a dry run a few days before so the kids have an idea of the organization.

Isn't this kind of the point of having kids? Going to boring school plays where no one can act, talent shows with only minor talent, squawking band concerts, plodding piano recitals, uncoordinated soccer games, ect. And you do this smiling while thinking "it's gets better" because either it does or your kid drops the activity.

No. The point of having kids is not to sit though 3 hours of mind numbing talent free crap. My kids play in music recitals with other kids who can actually play, they do sports they can actually do. Never do I need to be subjected to 3 hours of brain pain like this. Its different. Maybe its just different at our school and you're lucky you only have to deal with 1 hour instead of three.

Ours has zero rehearsals. Kids with group acts typically get together on their own to practice their number.
