bio on an IG account

An acquaintance of my daughter in MS has an Instagram bio that is very disturbing...let's just say it is regarding guns and get out of his way before he shoots you up, complete with a link to a gun store. I feel uncomfortable with this. Should it be reported to the school or is that an overreach--a conversation with the mother? I really don't want my name tied up with this lest there be any consequences with my daughter.

Go to the mon first, if she doesn't do anything, take action with the school

You should approach her parent first. You have no grounds to go to the school if she's not making an actual threat, nor should that be your first avenue to pursue. Let the mom know what bothers you about it, include a screenshot so she can see it, in case the daughter changes it, and go from there.
