Cymbalta Weight Issues?

Anonymous
Wondering about others' experience with Cymbalta and weight gain? I have always struggled with weight which of course just gets harder as I age. Wondering if the Cymbalta, which has helped me emotionally, is making the weight thing even harder. I have definitely gained since I've started taking it, but also know my habits have not been perfect this whole time. Thanks for your perspectives.

I gained almost 20 lbs on Cymbalta before I spoke with my doctor and discontinued it. It definitely helped with my pain, but it wasn't worth the pounds that kept adding on despite eating pretty healthy and trying to get some exercise. The first 10 lbs came off pretty easily and am still working on the next 10.

I didn't have any weight gain with Cymbalta. I had been told it is weight neutral drug. I found this on ncbi: " Conclusion: Duloxetine-treated patients experienced weight loss after short-term treatment, followed by modest weight gain on longer-term treatment. The size of the weight changes observed suggests that the antidepressant duloxetine has minimal effects on weight for the majority of patients."

Just switched from cymbalta to Prozac and have already lost 10 of the 15 pounds I gained with no change in routine or diet. Getting off the cymbalta was a total nightmare though, and I now have so much empathy for drug addicts drying out.

I gained weight on cymbalta- about 10 pounds and it took me forever to get the last five off- to me it's not worth it- if I'm already depressed, gaining weight is just going to make it worse. Try something else.
