| My 12 year old has an interest I don't know where to begin. |
| There are classes at Strathmore for kids. I looked into it a few years ago, so I don't recall the details beyond that the classes are provided by the Levine School of Music. |
| My DD plays the harp. She is able to take lessons at her school they have 2 harps on campus so she does not have to bring hers to school for her lessons. It is a beautiful instrument. |
| Any place that teaches adults in Northern Va? |
|
Harps which are traditional and full size are extremely expensive and heavy, so difficult to cart around.
But they do sound absolutely wonderful if played correctly. |
| Wow! No good advice, but very cool. |
I would start with her school to see what they offer in terms of instruments. Harps will be expensive, so leasing one or buying a used one would probably be more doable. House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park offers classes for less common instruments, not always for kids though. They list a harp teacher in Germantown: https://hmtrad.com/pages/teacher-abigail-palmer I would contact her to find out what resources there are. |
| We leased a harp from HOMT and they were very helpful in finding a teacher. |
| DC Youth Orchestra offers harp lessons. |
She'll probably start with a Lever harp. They are a few thousand dollars, or yes, you can rent one. Check out the Virginia Harp Center. https://www.vaharpcenter.com/ I bought ours through them. I was looking for a 2nd hand one, ended up with a new one. |
