How old before baby can go hiking?

Anonymous
We're expecting #2 in a couple of weeks, and would like to take a little hiking trip this fall with our new family. We aren't planning anything too strenuous in terms of elevation/technical trails, but I'm wondering old the baby should be before we embark on this? I'm mostly thinking of proper support for wobbly head, but I'm sure there is other stuff I'm not thinking of now because it's been two years since we've had a newborn. Our current plan is that DD will be in a backpack carrier, and DS will be in Ergo with an infant insert. Is 2 months too young for this sort of thing? Advice, tips, or reality check all appreciated!

If it's a day hike, I think you will be fine! We took our first to Lake Placid when he was 5 mo and did a very challenging, very steep all-day hike, He mostly slept and ate. I had to step off the trail to BF a few times, but it worked out fine!

I would wait and see how the baby is - we toook our twins out at about 3 months and as long as you have a good carrier it should be fine. RE; thinsg like sun protection and bug repellent - depnding on where you will be going.
