| Going this weekend for the first time to get some last minute skiing in. Anyone been? Any recommendations? Staying at a friends condo but they friends isn't coming. She said there are some good restaurants in "the village but after that I don't know anything. |

Whas the name of the condo? Ski in/ski out?
Snowshoe is unique in that the resort is located on the top of the mtn (and not at the base) so your first run is actually you skiing down to the lifts. Silver Creek has night skiing. Variety of restaurants/shops, pool, indoor kids' adventure, typical small over priced grocer. There's not a lot near snowshoe. Not like liberty or whitetail where youre passing through emmitsburg and clear spring, respectively, to get to the resort. You pass through a sleepy railroad town. With that in mind, bring your own food unless you plan on eating out or paying too much at the resort grocer. There's a gas station right before you turn towards the mountain (by the observatory) with a mini mart which is slightly cheaper than the mtn grocer. The drive is scenic, quaint towns, but also delapitated homes too. Makes you feel fortunate for what you have. They just got some great snow this past weekend. |

We like the two restaurants in Rimfire - Foxfire and Old Spruce. Also Cheats Pizza is available. South Mountain Grill did not impress us for the price, but they are the only place that takes reservations. The Boathouse is good for snacks and hot cocoa while skiing.
You won't have cell service probably the last hour of the drive and not at all once you are there. Texts only come through when you are in a pocket with wifi. I would plan to arrive during daylight if possible. |
Definitely eat at Foxfire. The Cantina also has awesome jalapeƱo margaritas. The Junction is fine for burgers and brews. There is also a new Italian restaurant that opened that is right past the Shaver Center. It's in the downstairs of a lodge that has been redone. I think lift across from it is Whistlepunk. Enjoy! I love that place! And if you have some downtime their spa is actually really nice. I would make reservations before Friday. |
| Do they typically get much more snow than liberty or Canaan valley? Are the temps enough lower for better snowmaking? |
They don't get much this time of year Yes, Canaan and Snowshoe, both usually get lots of natural snow and are able to make more due to their colder temps. That said, last year wasn't a good year for any of the mid-atlantic ski resorts. I think Snowshoe typically gets about 150" of natural snowfall.
