| We need to get our son evaluated. The Stixrud group has been recommended to us. Anyone has any experience with them? Thanks. |

It depends on what you are looking for. If you don't mind a 'large shop' where you feel like a #, then it's fine. Stixrud himself takes a year to get into...
We had a nice phone intake ... but I found the 'tone' to be too corporate for what we were going through with our child. We found a smaller 'shop' and received the attention we felt we needed. Many people are quite happy with Stixrud. I think perhaps you might want to ask for names at Stixrud, to narrow your decision if you want to go there, or google Stixrud on this site. There are a lot of comments about the group, good ones and otherwise, but information that'll help you make a decision. good luck |

We saw Dr. Henderson there 18 months ago for a full neuropsychological evaluation for our late-elementary son, and were impressed by the depth and breadth of the tests as well as the written and verbal reports. They're just bloody expensive! |
+1 Dr. Henderson was very helpful and the testing was very thorough. It is a large practice, but I never felt like a number to them. They have been very helpful to me in finding referrals, discussing strategies for helping DC, etc., for years after the testing was done. |
| We were very happy there. Found it very personable. |

OP here. Thank you all.
To the PP who was happy with a small shop: can you please share the name of the small shop? Thank you. |

We had Dr. Stixrud, who was fantastic. We didn't wait long, but we had an unusual circumstance. It was expensive but it was some of the best money I have ever spent on my DC.
Everyone we dealt with was very professional and kind. |
| Does the practice do IEEs? |
They did ours but FCPS worked very hard to discourage us from using them - bullying, in fact. Our younger DS has a complex profile (our older DS does not, run-of-the-mill ADHD/anxiety/LDs who really doesn't need neuropsychological testing) and requires neuropsych testing, not just the regular psycho-educational testing FCPS does out of the box. We spent several years trying to get appropriate services for DS and 3 years ago reached an impasse. I invoked our right to an IEE, FCPS sent me a list of 'pre-approved' testers. I called 80% of those on the list. None of those who were still in practice would do the tests within the 'cap' set by FCPS. None of them could do neuropsych testing. I booked Stixrud, told FCPS they were interfering with my right to an IEE by trying to impose restrictions that would prevent me from pursing an evaluation that was reasonable and customary. I ran the risk of them taking me through due process to avoid paying but given our situation, I thought that highly unlikely. We saw Dr. Fredricksen and were very happy with the report. Some of the standardized testing is done by others in the office but I appreciated they had a very wide range of tests/subtests they could administer and were not intimidated by FCPS. |
