Wood MS and Rockville HS- what do you think?

Any experience with these schools? Please share anything and everything you know. Considering moving into the cluster but unsure!

OP again, I am losing sleep over this home buying process because Im so overwhelmed by the various clusters of schools so will appreciate more than you know any guidance and input from those with experience with these schools. Thanks :/

What is your budget?

Not necessarily the middle and high schools. But there have been several threads on here recently about Flower Valley ES and Lucy Barnsley ES, which feeds into Wood and Rockville.

The feedback seemed to be pretty positive on both schools.

The one comment about Rockville HS, is that it's a small cluster and it sounded like students stuck in their same cohort from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Don't recall seeing many comments about Wood MS on here.

Don't know too much about the other schools. Is ES a factor or are your kids already MS and HS age?

I would look into the number of Honors and AP. Lasses offered at Rockville to see if it is commensurate with schools like Whitman and Churchill.

I have a preschooler and toddler. With our budget of $650k, seems like Rockville hs is the cluster most of the hosuing we can afford feeds into.

OP- this thread is helpful as well.

By the way, I graduated years ago from RHS, and I know plenty of people who want to move back to the area so that they can send their kids to RHS. It's the smallest HS in MCPS and has a great tight-knit community. Honestly I feel like it's one of the most underrated schools in the area. Lots of older people are starting to leave the neighborhood which is making way for new families to come in. Rock Creek VAlley, Lucy Barnsley, and Flower Valley are great schools. Same with Wood MS.

(Damascus and Poolesville are both smaller. And Seneca Valley, but it will get bigger when the new building is finished.)

With that budget, you can buy in the City of Rockville and send your kid to College Gardens. And end up at Richard Montgomery.

Or what about Olney?

We are zoned for Rockville HS but our budget was $450K. If we had the extra money, we would have chosen one of those options TBH.

PP- would you please explain why you'd rather be in Olney (I'm assuming Sherwood) or RM vs Rockville High? My husband and I are looking at Sherwood and Rockville as well.

On these boards College Gardens and RM seem to have stronger repuations than Rockville HS and its feeder elementaries.

I am not the PP you're asking, but I'm guessing that the explanation is:

1. the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence
2. the Rockville High School cluster is poorer and has more black and Hispanic students than the Richard Montgomery or Sherwood High School clusters.

But probably mostly #2. In the DCUM mind, there is a very high correlation between "good schools" and schools with few poor/black and Hispanic students.
