has anyone run intro trouble with registering their child in DCPS because of the Hep A vaccine? I am having a hard time getting this issue resolved through my dd's school. anyone know who or what office in DCPS might be able to deal with vaccine issues? |
I do not know about the school registration issues but I took my daughter for her 5 year old appointment and learned about the new vaccine. I had thought she was done with her last vaccines for several years at her 4 year old appointment, so I think this is a relatively new requirement. |
yeah, it is new. but they need two doses spaced six months apart. my dd won't have her second until november and everyone i talk to at her school tells me that she is not-compliant. i want to scream. |
Email Chancellor Rhee or call downtown and explain that this is a situation that needs fixing. This is DCPS dysfunction at its worst! Good luck! |
OP - have you had any luck yet? We just returned from a trip overseas to find out that our daughter also needed the Hep A vaccine (the new requirement was put into place just after her 4 year checkup). Anyway, she had the first shot today, but won't have the second until January. |
Here is some info from the DC Schools Web Site:
New this year: o Hepatitis A – 2 doses (Children born on or after January 1, 2005) ? If you have questions about DC’s immunization requirements, please discuss them with your child’s physician. You can also contact the DC Department of Health Immunization Division at (202) 576-7130. Good luck! |
There has to be an exception for the 2nd dose if it is not possible to get two doses before school starts.
So right now this should only affect pre-K based on the age. Is there any info they will be expanding the requirement to older children? |
op here. i finally got through to the nurse. she had been under the impression the doses were 3 months apart. so my dd is now in the clear. just an FYI--the doses are 6 months apart. good luck! |
