This is a spin-off on the great thread that was posted recently.
If you hate your job, why? Please identify if you work in the DC area or not. |
In the jobs I've hated, it's always been politics. |
I hated my job because my boss demanded 24/7 availability and even the it wasn't enough. I was a fed. |
Social worker - the supervisors had all been there for many years and miserable as they were never promoted into the high up positions. The worker morale was terrible and they treated staff very poorly. They promoted workers who were terrible and barely did their jobs as they were friends with them. It was very discouraging, especially for the pay. |
I hate the area of law I am practicing. It is so boring and I don't want to be a lawyer anymore. The problem is I don't know what I want to do instead. |
Are you me? |
I'm a social worker. I was working in a specialized program until recently, when I moved to an amazing new job. I left the program because 1) I was being verbally abused every day with no repercussion/ change in protocol for participants, and 2) I was being paid $14/ hour with a Masters degree, but since my job requirement didn't specify a Masters, I wasn't paid as such. But they had no program advertising how they had so many MSWs on staff, so I had no problem jumping ship. That program will be closed in a matter of months- my prediction (based on poor attendance/ attendee dissatisfaction). |
PS. Not in DC area. |
My job takes me away from time with my family and fun stuff. It doesn't have many benefits (no retirement, no health insurance) and it doesn't pay me a lot - $65k last year. I'd love to do better but this is where I am after 30 years in the workforce.
I like the work area (solar power). My lack of good compensation makes it a constant source of stress in my life and with my wife. It's tough to sit through a meeting this week about how we are a team and working on important stuff and all I can think about is whether to pay my health insurance on time or pile more onto the credit card. (I paid it with a credit card) When I look at my life, my work is worst part of it - 90% because of the pay. Which is all on me. Been working in the DC area since 1988. |
When I walk in in the morning and say hi, no one responds. |
Basically I just don't like having my time dictated by someone else. And I'd like to see my kids more than two hours a day. |
It's just not a good fit. |
I've had jobs I've hated. It's always been a culture/management issue. Tedious and hard work can be fun if you're with the right people. |
I went to school to be an interior designer but the recession kicked me out of the industry and (back) into the corporate world. Now 8 years later I'm stuck in a windowless office in the suburbs, full of sour, boring people running excel spreadsheets all day. |
I don't like my job because it doesn't challenge me or help me expand my work knowledge. |
