PK4 options

What options do we have if our child will be in PK4 next year and is currently at a montessori? Not opposed to exploring realistic montessori/non-montessori options.

What's your IB school? Enter the lottery for that and any other PK4 programs that interest you.

No reason you must stick with Montessori.

IB for Powell.

What is important to you? Where are you now?

I know a family who went from Montessori to Powell and had a good experience. I would say that if you're not interested in sticking with your current school and you want to send your child somewhere where he/she will learn Spanish, I'd do that sooner rather than later.

OP here, we are currently at shining stars. IB for Powell and willing to drive 2-3 miles, if something better is out there and which we have a shot at.

Our friends at Lee love it over there.
Lottery deadline is Wednesday--what schools have you looked at/considered? That may be more helpful if you are interested specifically in the transition from Montessori to School A/B/C.

What do others think of Breakthrough? Location unknowns seem worrying.

Current family at Breakthrough, and we've had a great year. Our kid adores her guide, and the parent and family community is strong.

Of course, location is a question, but the school has been very proactive and open (as much as possible) with families. It is obvious they care about doing this as soon as possible.

shinning stars is a great school - why the desire to change. We are at Lee and staying there because kids like their teachers and don't want to move, but Shining Stars is a tad closer to us and more open to parents in the classrooms, and so I sometimes wish we'd landed there instead.

You should give others a chance for a seat at Shinng Stars. Even tried twice. Please go to your IB or Breakthrough.

Selfish ?! From reading the PreSchool attrition post, you should try Burroughs for PK4. It sounds like smooth sailing after PK3.

OP, is your child not having a good experience at Shining Stars? If things are going well there, just stay put. There's no need to try to trade up if you've already got a good option, and if it doesn't work next year, Powell is a solid option for which you'd have IBA access next year anyway.

If your issue is with Shining Stars and not Montessori, list Lee, LAMB and Breakthrough. The other Montessori schools are further than you'd want to drive.

If you are not committed to Montessori, I'd try Powell, but also list Shepherd (ranked above Powell since your IB preference will give you a boost at Powell).

But seriously, if your child is doing wel at Shing Stars, just stick with it.

Plenty of people also want spots at Breakthrough and Powell. OP should make her decisions based on her child's needs, not the demand for a seat at her school.
