| How bad are they? lol I've flown spirit and that was pretty bad. I know they are no frills and you have to pay to check bags and all that, but is it worth saving a couple hundred dollars each to fly them. Or forget about it |
| I've flown both spirit and wow. Wow was better but you still pay for anything including water. We flew to Berlin round trip with no issues. Read the fine print before you go to airport. I did not find as strict as spirit. |
| I flew with them in 2003 to Iceland and it was perfectly fine |
|
What's wrong with spirit?
I flew united last night and it was awful. The tiniest, most uncomfortable seat I've ever had (on both flights). |
|
Better than spirit, but not much.

Your flight left, and arrived. That makes it better than spirit. |

I did this last month. I was apprehensive, but it's completely fine. If you've ever flown RyanAir or EasyJet, it's a little nicer. The plane is clean but small (one aisle). No blankets or pillows are offered. Food and water are available for purchase. The flight leaves at 6:00 so just buy dinner and water at the airport beforehand (more because of the quality of the food than the prices, the prices for food onboard were comparable to those at the airport.) It was an easy experience and the flight isn't very long -- I would do it again.
You might run into problems if you're a heavy packer. They charge for carry-on luggage larger than a purse, I think on two tiers. Plus obviously for checked in bags. I don't know what the prices are because I only took a tote bag (wasn't questioned at all), but if they're steep, maybe look at Icelandair fares too. We paid around $400 on WOW and Icelandair was around $150 more if I recall correctly. If you are staying awhile and/or packing heavily, it might be worth it. |

Pack lightly. They are fairly strict about weight, including carry-ons. They will tag your carry-on so gate agents know you properly paid.
Bring your own water AND food, nothing is free on the plane. The food at BWI international terminal SUCKS SO HARD. One restaurant and a "news stand" selling snacks. That's it. Bring food from the domestic side of the airport or bring it from home. If you're traveling on to Europe, the layover in Reykjavik is extremely short. We didn't have enough time to even grab food, they pushed us to the next gate immediately to take off to London. No entertainment on the plane. Pre-load your iPad with movies. The flight to Iceland is pretty short (maybe 4.5 hours?). It's difficult to get proper sleep. Don't schedule anything strenuous for your arrival day in Iceland/Europe. No pillows or blankets provide. The flight attendants looks like models, both men and women. Serious eye candy! |
| You get what you pay for. We did this over Christmas. They were 5 hours delayed both directions. The delayed flight over meant we missed the window at Blue Lagoon. Thought it was weather related, except there were no weather issues. The flight over they cranked up the heat, and offered NO WATER at all - we went through what we brought with us and were dehydrated by the time we arrived. We knew ahead of time all about the paying for backpacks (above normal size), suitcases etc. The plane itself was fine - newer and comfortable. They will rent you ipads for movies etc so bring your own. Of course no snacks. The price was amazing so we knew we would pay for it in other ways. I thought for such a short flight we would be fine but in hind sight I wish I knew how delayed they run, the fact there was no water offered. The crew were nice enough but I would really consider whether or not I'd do it again even for the amazing cheap price. |

Here's the history of their departure/arrival times for the flight to BWI:

We reviewed something similar before we left purchased the tickets to see their on time stats. Seemed fine, then December came around and flying over they told us the day of so we could at least we could show up later and go about our day at home- make plans for changing everything in Iceland since we were missing things like the Blue Lagoon. On the way back no message - we get to the airport on time - plane was there but they didn't even start de-icing it until 4 hours after it was suppose to leave....not good communication with passengers. People waiting said it was like that for every flight they had taken with WOW - they got where they needed to be but you might be a day or so late. |
