Hi All,

We are about to look out for good reproductive Lawyers in DC metro area since we will need to use a surrogate to have a baby and we would like to talk to a lawyer first before signing up with any agency

Can you please let us know the names of some good reproductive lawyers who work on these types of cases

Meryl Rosenberg of ART Parenting
Diane Hinson of Creative Family Connections
The first two are lawyers who run their own full-service agencies.
Jennifer Fairfax is a lawyer who represents you but you will search for the surrogate on your own.
They all offer free initial consults.

We worked with Jennifer Fairfax. She works with several agencies who find surrogates for her clients. We liked that better as she handled all the legal but the program used (CSP) found our surrogate. It was a clear division of responsibility. Jennifer was able to talk to the program on our behalf and answer a lot of questions. You do it have to find a surrogate on your own with her

You do not have to find your own surrogate with Jennifer.

Sounds like you are just at the beginning of your research into this - and worth going to talk to the different lawyers mentioned above, who are pretty established in this area. Another is Melissa Brisman in NJ, or Andrew Vorzimer based in CA. (It really doesn't matter where your lawyer is for this kind of work) The overall numbers of surrogacies is pretty small, so it's a small universe of lawyers and agencies that work on them. So, for instance, may 'full service' agencies consist of around 3 staff people, including an attorney. Even CSP, which is possibly the biggest agency that deals with surrogacies, is only about 10-15 people and that's because they have more case managers. Just raising b/c when I started my 'journey' of having kids through surrogacy (gestational carrier) - I was surprised by this, thinking there would be these seriously buttoned down agencies etc, so just to help set expectations. It doesn't mean they are not professional, they are just not these big mega-service oriented groups - and it took a lot of work and diligence on our part. That said, we were very blessed and successfully had wonderful twins this way.
