Wintergreen Resort in Summer

Anonymous
Looking for something to do over July 4th weekend, within driving distance of NOVA, with three young kids (6, 3.5 and 6 months) and found Wintergreen. I know it's more of a winter place, but they have some activities in the summer, and a pool, which is most important to our kids. Has anyone been? A lot of reviews say the rooms are run down. It's not expensive, so I'm not expecting 5 star accommodations, but also don't want to stay in a dump if we have to spend significant time in the room (naps, etc).

We are going to Disney later this year, so looking for a short (four nights, max) trip in July. Did Williamsburg last year when I was pregnant. I've pitched Hershey, but DH seems uninterested. Any other suggestions? I'd love to just rent a house in OBX, but we aren't going to go for a full week.

When I'm in Wintergreen I don't spend the daytime hours in our room. We hike, bike, swim, zipline, etc.

I stayed in a VRBO place in Wintergreen for a summer long weekend, so I can't speak to the rooms, but there was plenty to do. If we went again, we'd probably spend some time in Charlottesville on the way there or back.

Hi,

We are property managers at Wintergreen Resort.

We manage homes that were purchased and used by homeowners while their kids grew up. Now the homes aren't used that much.

We take these homes, open them up, take the personal items out, deep clean, decorate, beautify, share with Guests.

Please take a look at our places. In the summer, you would have access to outdoor, heated pools as Guests of ours and the homeowners. The Nature Foundation maintains all types of trails here at the Resort. There is Sherando Lake about 10 minutes away and the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive, and the Appalachian trail.

There are also many things to do in the Blue Ridge Playground. We help Guests with finding things to do in the area that fits their needs.

When it comes to reserving a place, The reserving directly at the Resort, they charge a mandatory Gratuity up front, HomeAway, Trip Advisor, AirBnb charge service fees - around 8 per cent. We are a No Service Fee, No Gratuity Reservation site.

Call or write. We would love to have you. We have lots of Guests Reviews (37 straight 5 Star reviews on our longest running home now).

Thank you.

We did a long August weekend at a condo in Wintergreen when our kids were ages 2 and 4. We had a blast. Short hikes, pool, playground. It was awesome. And quiet.

It's a pretty area, but I didn't like that it was not walkable at all. I felt pretty trapped. It's also a fairly long drive from DC, just long enough to feel very long. Not a huge fan!

Fourth of July at Wintergreen in so much fun for families! We have done it for a few years. They have planned activities all weekend. On the 4th there is venders with food ie, kettle corn, snow cones, beer and brats for the adults as well as crafts being sold. They have a nature center there that is really fun for the kids to visit. We even got to watch a free movie under the stars with pop corn.
