| We would want a couple days in Yosemite and a couple days in San Diego. A few great stops along the way...Is it even possible? If so, how would you do it? Traveling with DH and two good traveling kids 8 & 12. TIA!!! |

Yes.
But I would recommend nixing San Diego and doing Yosemite, Fern Canyon, Avenue of the Giants, SanFrancisco, Big Sur, Pacfic Coast Hwy, San Simeon, Santa Barbara instead. (No more than a day in Monterey, skip the aquarium) |
| Op here. Thank you! These places look awesome. San Diego is a non negotiable due to family so we need to make that a stop and preferably for more than one night. |
| Its a long drive. When we lived in San Diego we did drive to Yosemite for Thanksgiving. Pre- kids - we left middle of the night to miss the San Diego- LA- Grape Vine traffic. It didn't leave us much time in Yosemite and in hindsight we should have flown and driven from SFO to Yosemite. |
Then why go to Monterey at all? |
| If San Diego is a must, and you want to see natural beauty, I would suggest San Jacinto Peak, Joshua Tree and Anza-Borrego, depending on when you are going. Anza Borrego will be too hot after March, most likely, but Joshua Tree is fine into May and San Jacinto (Idyllwild) is great over the summer due to its elevation. You might also consider Catalina (ferry from Dana Point) or the other Channel Islands (farther drive- ferries from Ventura). |
