Running Shoes

Please share your favorite running shoe. I've been a fan of New Balance for years. Looking to try something new.

Everyone's feet are different, so my favorite shoe may not work for you at all. Your best bet is to go to a reputable running store and have them watch you run, look at your feet, look at your old running shoes to see where they are worn down and have them make recommendations and you try 10 pairs on.

I wear Nikes but have really narrow feet so they fit me well

My favorite shoes are the Mizuno wave rider.
But those might not be the right shoe for YOU, your build, and your running style (distance, terrain, etc.)
Go to a running store.

I like Brooks. Have an analysis of your foo done at a running store.

I also like new balance. Addidas and Nike don't work for me. I think if I were to switch it up, I'd try Brooks.

I've been wearing Brooks Glycerins for years. When I was younger and didn't need orthotics I wore Nikes.

Favorite running shoes is the ASICS Kayano, but it's pricey as hell, and I don't run the long distances lately to warrant paying $135. So I buy one pair of those for the longest runs, and I use a more mid-priced shoe for the shorter (5-7 miles) runs. I like the Nike LunarGlide for that purpose, especially if I can find them on sale online.

But definitely get fitted - everyone's feet are different.

I've run in almost every major brand...I agree you really need to get fitted or just figure out what works for you. I personally love the Brooks Ravenna. I need support and I also wear custom orthotics and they seem to work the best with them. The Adrenaline was way too heavy when combined with my orthotic. I feel like Saucony and Asics are pretty firm, and New Balance on the squooshy side.

Adidas Boost - best I have ever had by a mile.

Agree with above PPs, you need to know whether you're neutral or your foot rolls outward or inward and take your build into acct to know which shoes work best for you.
I am 5'6 female and my feet roll outward when I run - I used to like Asics Gel Cumulus and some of the New Balance shoes, but not as much recently. Had a pair of Adida Supernova I liked, but their pricey. Tried Brooks Glycerin for the first time a few months ago and will stick with those going forward.

Agree it's never a bad idea to go to a *good* running store and get fitted. I heard Fleet Feet in Silver Spring is good for that; I'm sure there are others.

There is some quiz at Road Runner (or maybe some other site?) that will ask a bunch of questions and give you a short list of recommended shoes. FWIW, I took the quiz after my last fitting, and got back a list of 5-6 shoes that matched almost exactly what the running store had recommended.

But honestly, while I'm sure some people need just the perfect shoe, I think most of us who aren't truly competitive runners and don't have specific issues would be fine in most shoes.

Source: Been running regularly but non-competitively, about 15-20 miles per week on average, for 10+ years. I buy shoes whenever I find them on deep discount, so I've tried several brands. Really like Brooks, Asics, and (surprisingly) Hoka. Have one pair of Mizuno that I really want to like based on recommendations, and I try them every few months, but I never enjoy them. Tried New Balance and Nike in the past, and they were OK for me, but noting special. Used to like Saucony a lot when I was younger, but then got turned off after a couple pair that felt weird.

I suppose if you're just looking for one good starter pair, I'd suggest Brooks or Asics, but that's mainly because I like them for me. Don't get too hung up on a particular brand, because most of us plodders can probably use almost any brand/model without any problem. Get a decent pair (not bargain basement) because you don't want to be turned off of running by bad shoes, or have an excuse not to run.

Good luck! Getting a new pair of good shoes is really fun IMHO.

Go to Pacers. I used to have awful shin splints. The recommended asics gt2000 and I hardly ever get them now. Everyones feet are different.
