Toddler puked everywhere. Washing sheets now, but know from previous experience the vomit smell is tough to get out. Is there anTthing specific to use prior to or during wash cycle to get rid of it? |
Yes - I've been through the vomit cycle many times now. Add white vinegar (liberal amounts) to the wash and let it soak in the water for a while, as in, several hours or overnight Then, wash and dry as normal. I think I use cold for the wash cycle. Also, don't put other items in there, don't want to risk them getting the vomit smell. |
Depending on how bad, just throw them out. It's not worth all the water, energy drying them, and time you spend washing and rewashing.

This is such a classic out-of-touch- DCUM response. Not everyone can afford to just toss out all of their linens. |
I just got an emoji print bed sheet for my kid for $20 @ target. Totally worth to toss out puke covered sheets and replace. It's not that big of an expense. If op is talking about a few spots of puke, then no, obviously don't toss, but her post makes it sound like there's a lot of puke if the smell is so bad she has to post askin how to get it out. |
Again. Such a DCUM out-of-touch response. Throw away and spend money because you cannot handle a load of laundry. |
Natures miracle from the pet store. Spray, air dry then wash. Add vinegar to washing machine. |
Mine puked on pack n play and I can't put it in the wash. Suggestions?
It's especially putrid due to cheesy goldfish crackers... |
Oxyclean or sport wash soap that's designed for sweat. the pack n play is tough, is it on the pad or pack n play itself? |
This. Any enzyme cleaner from the pet store will do the job. Make sure the area is soaked with the cleaner and let it sit for at least an hour. |
Mix up water and white vinegar. Spray liberally. Wipe down any spots. Spray again and let it air dry. |
OP, I've found white vinegar to be a great deodorizer. I add it to the wash cycle as well as to the "fabric softner" spout to come out later. It smells strong, but it dissipates quickly. |
What's with these lame HE washers that won't even clean out puke? I've washed pukey things in my basic top-loader dozens of times and never had a smell remain. I do an initial rinse in the kitchen sink to get as much out as I can (lesson learned - washer doesn't get rid of solid chunks). Then I wash in hot water on the heavy duty cycle. Items come out as clean as can be.
I do have a top-loading HE now, but it has a deep water cycle that is pretty much what I use on everything. It's certainly the correct cycle choice for sheets. |
soak in oxiclean for 12 hours |
Rinse the solids out in the utility sink or bath tub. Soak items overnight in solution of water, detergent and vinegar. Run a hot wash on with a cup of vinegar added to the rinse water. Even on my HE front loader I have never had any problems getting the puke smell out with this routine. |
