Marie Reed for PreK - thoughts?

Anonymous
We are in boundary, two questions:

1) Is it possible we won't get in (to either dual or English language program) or is this one of those "if you're in boundary, you'll definitely get a spot" situations?
2) What do parents who are there think of the school (either program)? Haven't seen anything recent in this forum posted on MR, interested in up to date assessments of the school.

Thanks!

Marie Reed definitely has had a waitlist for inbounds families for the dual language program. Two years ago, there were inbounds families waitlisted for the English only (which was surprising), although I think by the time school started in September all the inbounds kids had made it off the waitlist for the English program.

The people I know who have sent their kids there have liked it.

I've heard extremely positive things from two families who send their kids there. It's definitely on our list.

I know one family who's there who likes it a lot and decided to stay long-term, which was not their original plan.

I have a K student at Marie Reed. I don't think you can go wrong with PreK. The teachers are all very strong. It's a nice community, and the administration is very on top of things. They have handled the move to swing space and the busing as well as it is probably possible to do given the constraints.

I think that two years ago, which is the last year for which DCPS released the results, IB English dominant families can usually get into the English program, and have a 50-50 shot at Dual Language in the first round. The odds are somewhat better for Dual Language if you are IB Spanish dominant.

NP but interested in this thread as I am in bounds for next year.

How does the lottery work for the Dual vs English? Do you just rank both separately? Or do you have to choose ahead of time?

You rank them separately (so it takes 2 of your 12 lottery spots if you want to be considered for both programs). If you don't get in, you'll have a waitlist spot for each.
