Short to average height women: Do you feel intimidated by tall women?

Anonymous
I went to a Meetup group for the first time last night and this came up in conversation. There was a woman there who's 6'2 and she said she has trouble making female friends and she thinks women are intimidated by her because she's tall. A few other women there (also tall, but not as tall as the previous one) said they don't have an issue with women, it's more so men that are intimidated by their height. I'm only 5'5, but I've never felt intimidated around tall women. Anyone else feel that way?

I have never, ever heard of this. Does a woman who is 6'2" feel (falsely) superior? Maybe that is the question?

No, I'm not intimidate by tall women. That's silly. 5'4"

I am also 5'4 and do not feel intimidated by taller women.

No.

I'm surprised at these responses. I am 5'4" woman and definitely feel uncomfortable around people who are significantly taller than I am. There is a biological feeling of intimidation, even if the person is so nice!

I'm usually around woman that tower over me and I've never felt intimidated.

5'7" and have never felt intimidated by taller women.

Taller men though, have never done it for me. I've always dated men who were my height or shorter, in some cases, significantly so.

I am 6 feet tall and have always had tons of female friends. People aren't intimidated. Why would they be?

Sounds like some excuse-making as to why this person has very few friends.

Nope, I'm 5' even. If I was going to be intimidated by people that are significantly taller than me, I couldn't function.

To be honest, I'm actually a bad judge of whether people are tall or average height because everyone is taller than me. Friends will describe someone as "the really tall guy" and I'm just sitting there going "you're ALL really tall to me!" I'm a hobbit in a land of giants, basically.

No, not intimidated.

When I was growing up I felt huge and bulky when I stood next to really tiny girls. I myself was on the small/thin side of average, so I wasn't actually huge- it was just the occasional side by side comparison that made it seem so.

Maybe for that reason I sometimes find myself trying to put women who are much taller than me at ease by sitting rather than standing, etc. I remember that bulky feeling.

But seriously, you must feel uncomfortable all the time then, yes? A decent amount of the total population is towering over you.

Me too! I'm also 5' and basically everyone seems tall to me-just some people feel a little taller.

I don't feel intimidated, but I do sometimes feel self concious about my height. Between my high pitched voice and height I often feel like people don't take me as seriously as they woukd someone taller. However, I'm not intimidated by them.
