does ghee go bad?

Anonymous
There's no expiration date or direction to refrigerate on the jar. But, I used some this morning after not having cooked with it for a long time (several months) and I've been feeling gross ever since. It smelled and looked normal.

It should be fine. I don't think ghee goes off.

It wasn't the ghee. It's shelf stable and lasts for years after opening. Unless you contaminated the jar last time you used it, than it was probably something else.

No. Ghee does not go bad, normally. If you used a wet spoon etc to scoop it out or it was contaminated with something else - it may spoil. So, always use a clean and dry spoon.

Aged ghee is a medicinal ingredient in Ayurveda.
