We are thinking of going to Strasburg Railroad in a few weeks with our 2 year old and I have a couple of questions. There are many different ticket options (open air, coach, various day passes), does anyone have any recommendations or advice? Also, is it necessary to buy tickets in advance or can we wait until we are there? Any info is much appreciated!
We just went 3 weeks ago with our 4 and 2 year old boys. We did not have tickets before we went and bought them the day of. We went on the 4th of July on the first train of the day and that was good because it was a lot more crowded when went got back. We did the shortest ride - 45 minutes I think? We bought tickets on the open air coach because it was a beautiful day. It is still covered, but there is no glass on the windows. One thing to mention is that my 2 year old did get tired of the ride about halfway through. One option for that is to get off on the way back when they stop at a small playground/picnic area. You can stay as long as you want and just get on another return train to go back to the station. I think it would have really helped my kids to break up the ride a little bit. But the area is beautiful and we had fun.
Have been twice on holiday weekends and got tix on site both times. Did open air once when weather was good. Indoors when chillier. It was really fun and pretty I thought and kids enjoyed it.
