We found some cheap tickets to Denver for Spring Break. We'd like to do some outdoor activities, but not skiing. What National Parks are driving distance and worth visiting in April? We'll have 3 kids between 5 and 11. Thanks!
Hit Hammond's Candy factory and Butterfly Garden for inside activities in Denver. A fun snack place is "The INventing Room" also in Denver. Rocky Mt National Park is 1.5 hours away--different routes you can take to go there. I recommend staying in Denver 1-2 nights to get altitude adjusted--even then my 8 year old had difficulty getting to sleep (a common issue apparently). Not sure how the snow in RMNP will be that time of year but I am pretty sure Trail Ridge Road to cross from one side of the park to the other is still covered in snow and thus impassable.
what do you want to do? You can do just about anything here, remember - march is the snowiest month of the year.
We'd be there in early April. It would be fun to hike or do some other outdoor activities.

Some years there is a TON of snow in April, so you need to plan for any weather (70s last week! In February!).
I'll throw in a plug for Colorado Springs--Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, Helen Hunt falls, Seven Falls, Manitou Springs, walking around the Broadmoor. |
