DS nose keeps bleeding 2 times a week

Anonymous
His nose started bleeding again as soon as he woke up this morning. I am thinking it's also dry air in his room/house. How can I treat this? Should I put a humidifier in his room? Recommendations?

Humidifer helps enormously.

You may want to ask your doctor. As a kid I had this and the doctor needed to cauterize a blood vessel in my nose that kept opening.

The same thing happened to my son so I finally made an appointment with the ENT. That same night, he had a huge nosebleed and the little piece of skin that kept opening up finally fell out. Gross but that was the end of it.

Humidifier! Monitor the humidity in your house so it doesn't get that low. Dh used to get a nosebleed daily until we ran humidifiers nonstop.

Op here. Thanks. Which humidifier do you recommend?

Humidifier and Ayr saline gel applied to the area where it bleeds from for 2 weeks, twice a day. My DS has a 'weak spot" so says the ENT and we did get a prescription ointment for it. So when the nosebleeds start up my DS restarts that for 2 weeks followed by the Ayr for a week or two.

Mine does the same thing. He picks at it overnight and then it bleeds and he gets freaked out by blood on his pillow. Also had a bloody nose at school and got sent to the nurse and got blood on his shirt. He's almost 6. How old is yours?

Get a warm mist one.

Get a warm mist one.

And always use distilled water, no matter which kind you get. I do prefer the warm mist ones, though.

Not OP, but why should people use distilled water all the time? What problems can DC tap water in humidifiers cause?

NP here. I have the same issue as does my youngest DS (now 10). We've got a whole house humidifier on our furnace but that's not sufficient. I also run a warm mist humidifier. I don't use distilled water but do clean the unit every week to remove scale and disinfect. I have severe environmental allergies and this is sufficient for me.

Every evening/morning, for DS, he uses a saline spray every morning/evening. Periodically, I will swap his nose with vaseline. For me, if I do nasal irrigation on a regular basis, I don't need to use the vaseline. HTH.

We put Vaseline in DS's nose before bed whenever the heat is on to avoid nosebleeds.
