Who is more crazy? Sport parents or academic parents?

I think we can see that good number of people on DCUM belong to one or the other group. There might be a few music parents. So what is your experience? Who is crazier? Sure, parents might not think what they are doing is crazy, but if you take objective look at yourself, where do you stand?

How does it affect you? Why do you care?

It doesn't affect me, harpy, it is just a topic to see opinions of different people. It is called conversing.

Academic parents can be intense and competitive, but I've seen no crazy ones. Sports parents, on the other hand, with the shouting and the insults...

Neither. DCUM parents win it hands down.

Depends on your definition of crazy. I think that sports parents can be more outwardly crazy, but academic parents can do more psychological damage to their children.

OP here. I will give an example of a sport's parent. This dad, kid was about 10 at the time, yelled and coached his son and got kicked out by the ref. Another sport's parent yelled during the game at her son and his team, "You got them in your clutches now, crush them," while the parents of the other team were right in front of her, no less. I agree with sport's parent being the more visible ones to all.

I guess you would know, as you just called yourself crazy. Unless you are not a parent but a pervert trolling this site?

Why would perverts troll this site? They are much more likely to show the social media accounts of parents in order to see pictures of kids.

I agree that the sports parents are more overtly crazy, but the academic parents do just as much damage, as a PP said. Take it easy on your kids, people!

I think it's far more socially acceptable to be spend time, money and energy into your child sports than academics.

No not a pervert but I think you just proved my point by your expert level of personal attack and troll comment.

I read DCUM sometimes because I have 3 kids. But the level of competitiveness and status checking is truly insane.

You read and post on DCUM, you are a parent, hence per your own words DCUM parents win the crazy contest, hence you are DCUM parent, ergo you are crazy.

Sports because most sports parents are middle and upper middle parents who don't care so much about grades. They crave the gratification of short-term success e.g. winning the next game. I've never met a music/academic parent who wasn't mindful of their kid's college preparation, i.e. the future.

I know at least dozens of "stud" teen athletes who didn't end up on a college team, went to a crappy college, flamed out at college, and/or came home with a worthless degree because they weren't prepared for college academics.
