| Husband was offered a job there and don't know anything about the area. |
| Fayetteville is a suburb of Syracuse, NY. So study up on Syracuse if you want to know more. I went to Syracuse University and while I loved my college experience and S.U., I did not like Syracuse. The weather was mostly terrible and the mindset of the locals (townies) was depressing. I was in school in the 90s and downtown Syracuse was getting a tad better (some revitalization, bars and restaurants). There's a huge mall there (Carousel) and that was a main attraction back then. I think you can get a lot of house for your money in that area. You can get good Italian and Greek food there. |

Fayetteville is very nice, you could live there comfortably. Nice houses (3+ floors) go for ~250k.
I also went to Syracuse University (class of 2014) but I thought living in Syracuse was fine. I am from a small town though. The mall there has some nicer stuff now, it has a wing full of designer clothing stores. |
| Fayetteville is nice and near Manlius is also nice and nearby. Cost of living is much less. |
| I'm there several times a year visiting in laws. The winter weather is very depressing and isolating. Do not underestimate that. |
+1 Just be prepared for lots of snow in winter and that your kids will have school. Very few snow days. You're near the finger lakes, the great lakes, niagara falls--one thing I really missed when I moved down here was natural bodies of water. Basically everyone here has Eastern Shore and that's it. It's easy to do hiking, skiing; lots of wonderful parks. |

It's one of the more affluent suburbs of Syracuse. The schools are excellent.
Taxes are high, but real estate is much less expensive than here. It's a beautiful area. Great community feel. |
Poor babies. |

If you enjoy pretentious behavior, Fayetteville/Manlius is the place to live. It is on the east side of Syracuse. They also do not like children with special needs to attend their schools so that they can keep their "elite status."

My ILs live near there and we visit often. It is a nice place, if you can get past the winters (obviously, people deal with the snow much better there). It has its pros and cons like anywhere, but the people in my ILs' group of friends are incredibly warm, generous, and caring. When FIL was ill and passed last year, there was a constant stream of visitors and support for my MIL. She had a hip replacement earlier this year, and friends cared for her since we couldn't make it up and ferried her to/from the hospital and physical therapy.
The downtown area is having a nice renaissance, seems to me. The airport is decent, and it's a beautiful area. I don't think it's a bad option at all. |
| The winter months are long, dark and cold. |
