After watching the latest episode of the Leah Remini Scientology show, I saw an ad for a new show called Escaping Polygamy on the same channel, A&E.
Holy crap! This show is just as eye opening and frightening as the Scientology docu-series. It basically shared stories of women who are trying to leave the FLDS community - you know, Warren Jeffs' cult. Girls being married off to uncles and old men. Separated from their children so they can't leave. So many rules to keep them where they are and uneducated. Warren Jeffs is still running the community from prison. Anyone else watching this? |
| I think this is the second season? If you're really enjoying it, the first season might be available on their website. |
| OP you should read Under the Banner of Heaven. It's really amazing and terrifying. |
I loved that book. I was obsessed with all the FLDS (and TBH the LDS, which is IMO only a step up from Scientology) stuff I could read about 10 years ago, its Krakauer's best for sure |
+1 great book |
Totally agree - have you been following the Mormon Leaks stuff lately? Very interesting - careful if you don't want to get sucked back in. A lot has happened in the LDS church in the last 10 years. |
| I watch it. It's fascinating to me. I can't imagine not being able to tell anyone that I'm escaping from my religion and that in doing so, I am saying goodbye to my family forever. They have to start over with no money, limited education and no real skills. |
| I've only seen 1 or 2 episodes, but it seems very staged to me. |
