Who do you put as your beneficiary of your investment accounts?

I'm mid 40's, have a spouse, two young kids, aging parents, and a sibling who has their own spouse and kids. I would put my spouse as the beneficiary but the marriage is not exactly rock solid. Someone else suggested I put the kids down. I'm not sure who to put down?

I am available to be your beneficiary.

Um ~ your spouse would have to raise two children without you should you die. You really want to keep money that would help your children from her? Thats pretty rotten.

I have my spouse, with my kids as contingent. In your case I would either do spouse or the kids.

I think you should put your spouse as long as you're married and if the marriage fails then change it. Or you could set up a trust with your kids as beneficiaries and name the spouse as the trustee so she could use the money to support the kids if something happens to you. Name the trust as the beneficiary.
