Clermont Elementary / Douglas McArthur Elementary, Alexandria

Hi, We are moving to Washington DC and are looking at properties within the elementary school zones of Douglas McArthur or Clermont in Alexandria.Any views on either school greatly appreciated,my daughter would be going into in grade 1. Thanks

Clermont is in Fairfax County; MacArthur is in the city of Aloxandria. Therefore, they are in quite different school systems. MacArthur is regarded as one of the best elementary schools in the city of Alexandria. I don't know so much about Clermont. Many of the families there are in the military.

We spent one year at Clermont, it was the worst school I've ever seen! It seams that the principal there sets the tone for the rest of the school personal.
I wouldn't recomend this school to anybody.

In Alexandria, MacArthur is considered good. George Mason, Lyles Crouch, Charles Barrett and Maury are also good and have very nice family communities. The only negative I have heard about MacArthur is the overall size which sometimes leads to larger class sizes, but this varies year to year so I would suggest contacting the school directly with any questions and even setting up a tour.
