Right -- she was the Murch principal until 2005, when she followed her husband to his new job. Now she's (they're? I don't really know all the details) back.

What happened to the new principal who just started at Stoodert two years ago? Why a new one?

You mean former Murch principal Carolyne Albert-Garvey? She was well regarded by Murch parents.
Anonymous
No. Its the principal Murch had before Ms. Albert-Garvey, Marjorie Cuthbert, who is at Stoddert now.

Anyone know why there is a new principal at Stoddert?

So Rhee can claim credit when interest in Stoddert soars once the new facilities are complete? Then the media will accept her claim that her new principal took the school to the next level. It won't matter that all of the planning and design took place under a different regime. It's who's there at the ribbon-cutting.

Since Rhee isn't doing a good job turning around failing schools, the emerging strategy seems to be to spiff up Ward 3 schools, replace principals, and hope that the economic downturn brings more affluent families into the system. Voila -- DCPS schools are improving.

Many parents who have kids at Stoddert were very unhappy with the previous principal. I believe Rhee got rid of her because she was not competent, but I see you have already made your mind up about Rhee regardless of the facts.

Actually, my opinion of Rhee is based on a series of facts/actions/results. I was hopeful she'd improve DCPS, and am somewhat astounded by how quickly she has made it even worse. Closing bad schools to send kids to failing schools was a classic example -- but you didn't read about that in the Post. They just told you how poorly the shuttered schools were doing -- they didn't tell you what a mess the receiving schools were.

Parents are voting with their feet; enrollment in DCPS is down again this year.

Stoddert parents: Why did folks not like the previous principal. I heard good things about her from the parents I know.

Our school has 25-30 more kids than last year, and that is with the loss of the sixth grade. Not everyone is fleeing...

Well, yes, when you a couple dozen schools, the remaining schools end up with more pupils. Overall, though -- i.e. systemwide -- there are significant declines in DCPS enrollment.
