In home daycare recommendations in Alexandria?

Anonymous
Hi-

We just moved to Alexandria and have been looking for daycare options for our first child who is due next month. We're already on the wait list for some of the bigger daycare centers in Old Town, but with the long wait lists, we're also looking into home based care since the chances of us getting into a center by January are slim!

Does anyone have any recommendations for home based daycare? We live near the Fairlington/Shirlington/Beverley Hills area and would ideally like the daycare to be somewhere nearby and are planning to have him start in January.

Thanks!!

I am also looking for an in-home day care in the Alexandria area for my 17 month old daughter. Thanks for the original posting. Obviously there is much demand.

I have a space available!

We are licensed by Virginia and Arlington county. The staff and I are First-aid, CPR and MAT certified.
Many of our clients live in Alexandria, as we are very close to 395 and Glebe, and the Shirlington area.
Many references available...

My email is biss32@aol.com

Thank you!

Hi - I'm in the Fairlington area and use a home daycare provider who may have an opening in September.

She's in Arlington (not far from Seven Corners/Bluemont Park area) but I make the drive from the Alexandria side of Fairlington to her house every morning, and then to my office downtown, and haven't found it to be too painful of a commute.

She's licensed in Arlington County for 5 children, and we just adore her - she's had my son since he was 3 months, and he was a pretty difficult newborn. She's loving, patient, and professional - a total godsend.

If you want more information feel free to email me at sheltongross @ gmail . com

We can totally use this info as well!! My husband and I are looking for an in-home daycare for our baby boy. The baby is due in October, so we are looking for a place for our son in mid- to late-January 2010. We live in Alexandria (closer to Springfield/Kingstowne than Old Town) but do not mind driving to other areas as long as it does not make my commute too painful (I work in DC).

The Kingstowne Franconia Childcare Network is a group of state/county licensed providers in that area. They have a website with a list of their members http://www.ccnkf.com/providers.html . We use High Expectations Childcare and are very happy with them. It's run by a guy which is pretty unusual but he and his helpers are great and the setup is fantastic.

We will be leaving our current daycare provider, Cristina Santis, at the end of August so that my twins can start preschool closer to home. Cristina has a wonderful in-home daycare, which is located near the intersection Franconia/Springfield Pkwy and Beulah Street. We have truly enjoyed our time with her, and would love to see her find another family who can benefit from the loving, caring environment that she provides. Please call her directly for more information at 703-505-6545.

You might want to try Infant Toddler - you can check out their website or do some searching here but basically they're a non profit with a network of home providers. You pay an enrollment fee ($300 I think?) and for that you get the peace of mind of background checks, immunizations, ESL training (if needed) for all providers. They can supply you with a list of providers and their resumes and their rates are very affordable. I want to say just under $1000/month in Alexandria.

I currently have 1-2 spaces available for age 12mo and up. I am really hoping to find another toddler in my childcare to be a playmate to the little man I am currently taking care of right now.

I hold a current CPR and First Aid certification, a permit through Fairfax County Office for Children, and participate in the USDA Food Program as well as the subsidy program through OFC. I am looking to keep my group small.

The curriculum I follow is the Early Learning Guidelines through Fairfax County OFC. This is basically teaching children through everyday play and activities as well as basic needs and day to day interaction with each child. The kids enjoy reading, music, crafts and more. Indoor and outdoor play everyday.

If interested in setting up an interview or if you have any questions, feel free to contact me!!

Another recommendation for Infant Toddler. We have referred many people who are also happy with their services.

You can find licensed childcare in Fairfax County on the County website at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/childcare/search. In order to have a state or county license, among other things, all licensed providers must have background checks, CPR/first aid training, continuing education and unannounced inspections. Results of those inspections are posted on the Virginia Department of Social Services website. Unlike Infant Toddler, this is a free service.

Although I'm sure there are some good providers with Infant Toddler, you should be aware that their inspections are done by their own group and violations are not posted anywhere. There was discussion about that in earlier threads.

Good luck
