Footwear question for trips with lot of walking

Anonymous
All these years I used to use wear some sort of light weight pants and would wear slip on shoes or hiking shoes for walks/hikes. But for this summer trip, I want to wear my sun dresses. At home, I usually wear ballet flats because I don't do extensive walking.

Can you suggest some shoes that look good with dresses or skirts and will be good for walking a few miles a day?

Converse low tops.

My feet get really hot and with dresses I like to find really comfortable, but stylish sandals. They need to have good support and be well broken in. Check Zappos - they have a lot of different styles. Be sure to wear them a lot before you take them on your trip so you know they're comfy.

No support whatsoever.

Op here. I haven't owned converse before. Does it have good support? I don't get very hot so don't need sandals. We are going to Italy. So hoping to find something that can take the beating there but not give me blisters and of course look decent enough with dresses and skirts.

I don't have any issues with feet so don't need specialized shoes. Just something that is comfortable.

Chacos with the thin straps might have just enough delicate looking straps but are generally considered very comfortable and supportive even for people with foot issues. Other brands have variations on this same theme.

I would be more worried about doing lots of walking wearing a sundress as eventually I'd have thigh chafing if I didn't wear shorts underneath, which would then defeat the purpose of being in a sundress.

Make sure you take a cardigan or blouse for cover into sacred spaces.

Vionic. I have trampsed up and down the streets of Barcelona, Paris, Cartagena, and Bogota in dresses and Vionic sandals. They used to be orthaheels. They're amazing for your feet and so cute!

I own these in black and they go with many dresses and are so comfortable - http://www.vionicshoes.com/women/top-rated/amber-adjustable-sandal.html

These in gold cork are great too - http://www.vionicshoes.com/women/top-rated/lizbeth-t-strap-sandal.html

No, they are completely flat inside. I think this would be a terrible choice.

Check out Camper. They have a cute slip on with an elastic strap that I wore all over Paris in July.

Vionic or Cobb Hill.

Do not get converse.

I've had several pairs of Taos sandals - good support.

OMG, yes! I was on a NY trip once where I took only sundresses, and I walked all the way from that Seinfeld diner to Times Square and back. The next morning I had to make an emergency run for leggings to wear under my dresses.

Boat shoes. The all leather ones are classy enough for Europe with out screaming American bumpkin like converse.

Converse are absolutely terrible. They're so uncomfortable! Vionics are good, I also like my Sperry boat shoes (but they have to be broken in or they tend to rub in the back). I also love my Sanuk Donna shoes and Sanuk flip flops--you might want to check for something on their website that'll go better with a dress. I have had two foot surgeries and have to wear custom orthotics when I wear sneakers, but the Sanuks are cushy enough that I am comfortable and pain free in them even for long periods of time.

For our trip to Eastern Europe a couple of years ago I took a pair of Keen Bali slip ons and a pair of Dansko low heeled summer shoes. I wore mostly skirts and dresses and they kept me comfortable the whole time.
