| I live in DC. I keep reading advice on how to oppose Trump, his policies, and his nominees and it all tells me to call my Congressman. I don't think I'm going to feel productive if I call Eleanor Holmes Norton. Can I call Congressman from other districts or is that unproductive, too? It irks me that I don't really have anyone to call!! What do other people in DC do? |
| Simple. If it bothers you this much, just move across the river. |
| I don't call her. She doesn't have a vote and basically everyone in DC is on the same page so she's not getting conflicting direction from voters. And if you call other reps, their staffers generally blow you off if you're not a constituent. I'm not sure what to do, frankly. I guess you could call friends and family in purple or red states and try to sway them to call their reps. Literally all of my friends and family live in blue states though. |
That's what I am doing --> Start a chain that might get friends of friends involved, even if you only have friends in Blue States, they might have friends in purple states. |

This site is still being set up but could help:

A facile solution to a complicated problem. OP, I would fight for DC statehood. The Republicans are already trying to change our laws. This is a way to oppose Congress, Trump, and their interference in the city's decisions. They sure wouldn't impose this crap on their own constituents. |
|
No. I have been calling the Chairs and ranking members and sometimes regular R members of committees (e.g. HELP for Betsy DeVoss/Education, Judiciary for Jeff Sessions/Attorney General). Sometimes they don't ask where you live, and when they do I explain that I'm from DC and don't have voting representation in Congress.
It's all so maddening and to have no recourse is that much worse. Ugh. |
| Norton was past her prime 25 years ago. It's not just that she can't work with Republicans much; she barely gets along with Democrats. |
|
"Simple. If it bothers you this much, just move across the river."
PP, you are living in an alt-universe if you think your sentiment is held by many others here in D.C, where only 4% of the population voted for Twitler. Might be you that needs to move across the river. After all, 44% of VA voters went for the Orange facist. Simple, isn't it, when you rely upon facts. |
Hi, Ashley. |
I agree with the OP's statement. Norton got elected to Congress despite years of having failed to pay taxes. She's been ineffective for years on the Hill, but most people in DC's political class don't want to point out that our little empress has no clothes. |
| We called her office once about obtaining gallery passes. She couldn't even deliver on that. |
| It's DC. If you don't have lots and lots of connections on the Hill you're doing it wrong. |
Exactly. So why does DC, all of jurisdictions, have a past-her-prime "representative" who has burned just about every bridge on the Hill? |
| Fuck no. I'll never vote for EHN again. DC can do better. She sucks. |
