| We'd like to go to the islands for 4-5 days. We've never been. Family of 4 with a 7 yr old & 9 yr old and we like to have stuff to do together as a family. I don't want to be restricted to the resort and would like to be able to partake in some local culture--safety is important. Which islands would you recommend? |

I liked staying in St. Thomas near the Ferry so we could go back and forth to St. John.
I wasn't crazy about Puerto Rico. Really enjoyed Cayman Island. Nice people and nice beaches but it doesn't compare to St. Johns, which has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. |

Cayman
Aruba |
|
St. John
Curacao Both very safe, gorgeous beaches, great off beach snorkeling. |
|
St Lucia,
a bit further of a flight. but lots of fun. |
| Aruba or Bermuda depending on the time of year. |
| Turks |
|
Aruba or Bonaire
We also had an amazing time in Turks |
What didn't you like about Puerto Rico? Where did you stay? |
| I like St John, but it takes all day to get there: leave DCA at 6 am, and assuming all goes well arrive at your resort at 4 pm. Then reverse the whole thing on your last day. Not really ideal for the 4-day trip OP is looking for. |
| Thanks everyone. I'll research the suggested islands. |
| Second vote for st Thomas close to ferry. The ritz is close by. Has a very nice protected lagoon for kid friendly snorkeling off the beach. Nothing spectacular but you see fish. |
|
| aruba or grand cayman. nonstop flights out of dulles. |
