travel with infant

Anonymous
Just booked a trip to puerto rico (first trip with a baby) and wanted to figure out logistics. Do I just check the carseat and snap n go at the gate? We did not buy a seat for her so she will be in my lap. SHould I bring the carseat base too? I know you can use it without so I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. We're renting a car so we should be good once we get there.

You can check both either at the gate or curbside (if you've got a good baby carrier and are more comfortable using that and not having the stroller). I'd skip the carseat base - it's pretty easy to install without it and awfully bulky to bring it. Have a great trip!

If your infant is over 6 months or so, you can take a sit n stroll and a baby carrier (maya wrap, baby bjorn, ergo, whatever you like), and have much less to carry. I love our sit n stroll

Yes, definitely plan to check the Snap N' Go and infant seat at the gate. That way, if there are any extra seats on the plane, you don't need to check the seat & can use it on the plane, which is a huge bonus when it happens. I second the advice to leave the base at home. Infant seats are totally easy to use without the base, so it's not worth the trouble IMHO.

I just traveled with my travel system by chicco. When I checked in, I asked if it was possible to use an empty seat for the baby in the car seat even though we had not purchased a separate seat. They were nice enough to accomodate us without charge b/c the flight was pretty empty. Baby slept like a charm. by the way...where in PR are you staying? I have to go next week for work and decided to take the baby and stay at home dad with me. Looking for a nice family friendly hotel. Don't want to be by the cruise ships either.
