| I am trying to get some additional recs for K or Junior K for my son. He just turned 5. He is in PEP equivalent in NOVA. He has fine motor delays, some lingering speech issues (but in normal range) and ADHD. He is doing well academically FWIW - knows all letters upper and lower, can write name and other letters, cut, recognize some words, count with object correspondence. He has some challenging behaviors, mainly attention seeking, issues with transitions, overly excited, impulsive and hyper. PreK in PEP equivalent is going very well. I do think b/c of the social immaturity and other issues I would like to do one more year of PreK privately. But where?? Are there any options other than Dolly Madison which does not sound like it is a fit? Maddux is too far. I am thinking at this point only option is public with a good IEP. Any other recs? |
| Either you posted or someone else in a similar situation just posted this. I'd probably start in public and if that doesn't work, then look at private. I would not hold a January kid back as he's going to be so much bigger and older than the other kids and keeping him with younger kids may not give him the socialization he needs as it will keep him at a much younger level if his peers are over a year younger. If he can cut and write, I would not worry about the fine motor. |
| I did just post - just want to make sure I'm not missing any potential school recs. But it sounds like I'm not. I wish there was an alternative. |
| Would diener be a good fit? |
New posts just get confusing. You'd have to call some of the privates in VA and see who can work with your child. |
I don't think the OP is worried about fine motor, more about the immature behavior. OP, I wouldn't worry at all about a kid's size. Kids come in all shapes and sizes. Have you looked at Newton for K? You could then repeat K in public or stay at Newton. |
I have and it seems great. I am a bit worried about the distance. Diener is actually closer (we are in Alexandria). All of the options seem to be very far. |
