How painful is a stress fracture in your foot?

It's not plantar fasciitis, and I have a dr's appointment, but equate fracture with severe pain. What had been your experience? TIA

In my experience, fractures (stress or otherwise) have been much less painful than torn ligaments or torn anything. The only thing more painful to me than torn knee ligaments was a compound fracture (a break of bones such that the broken bones break the skin from the inside and protrude) of my tibia and fibia. That hurt like you don't know what.
