Schools and Education General Discussion
|
My son will be 3 1/2 next year and we are looking for a school in DC or MD that do well with children experiencing developmental delays (his speech is about a year behind). We know of NCRC, St. Columba's, The River School, and perhaps Lowell. Does anyone know of any others that are good with children who might be bright but behind developmentally and require more attention? (He is also very attached to his parents/caregiver.)
Thanks so much. |

At age 3.5, my son was way behind in articulation and somewhat behind in language. At age 4.5, my son was on target with language but still way behind in articulation. So, he is progressing at a different pace than most kids his age. Anyway, this was my experience.
The first preschool I used was Karasik on Tenbrook Road in Silver Spring. I picked it due to its diversity in terms of having students of differing abilities. Then I moved. We have only one preschool that is really close to us and decided to try it. What I found is this. The school didn't matter. The important thing was to get my son into the right class, which meant ignoring his age and placing him with kids who were at the same learning place as he is. The school worked with us to promote him when he reached the skill level of the next class, despite the fact that his classmates were not due to be promoted. |
