Nonprofit Program Director - What salary range can I expect?

Anonymous
I am applying for a Program Director position at a nonprofit. It's headquarters is in Boston. I would be Program Director at one of its two sub offices elsewhere in the state. (The current Director position there is being split into two positions; the other position is more externally focused). What kind of salary range can I expect? I have looked at Glassdoor and the organization's 990 to no avail. I have done two interviews and have more ahead and am wondering if the position is worth pursuing. Thanks!

What is the EXecutive Director making, according to the 990? I think you can expect to make 20-50% less, depending on the organizational budget. Smaller orgs have less of a gap between ED and senior staff.

If you aren't seeing any salaries listed, I think that means that no one is making $50,000.

What field (roughly) non profit? I mean depending on a ton of variables i could see this being anywhere from 60K - 120K, which is an insane range.

What's overall budget? What's the CEO make? Small grassroots would be lower end of scale. National group well funded would be higher end.

Actually the 990 disclosure changed a couple years ago -- nonprofits now only disclose over $100,000. OP, I'm guessing you would be $65k max.

OP here. Thank you to those who responded already. Overall budget is $2 million. CEO made $170,000, CFO made $117,000 "reportable" plus another $10,000.

I have a similar job in a similar, slightly larger, organization.

I'd guess somewhere in the 65-85 range based on the numbers you quoted. How many rungs down from the CEO are you?

Looks like there is the CEO, CFO and Chief Program Officer in Boston, and then the Directors for Boston and for each of the two sub offices. (But Director positions are being split in two.)

I would agree with this based on my nonprofit experience.

Boston area here with experience in a non-profit with slightly smaller budget and similar exec pay. I would guess 65K - 75K.

55K to 70K.

It really varies- I made 150K as a nonprofit director. My situation is not unheard of. Knowing your potential future boss makes what you stated I would agree it would be less. I am pretty sure if he/she is listed on the 990 that means they probably have access to a lot more benefits to keep them there.
