I want to start an at home soup business. I wanted to see how many of you would be likely to buy soup from say, the shelves at Whole Foods?
|
| I love soup but I would never buy it - I make it myself. Its too easy and so much healthier when you make it at home. |
| Yes. Especially in the fall and winter. |
| I like soup. Whole Foods has a ton of soup - both as a pantry item and in the ready-to-eat refrigerated section. Not sure how someone can answer your question in a vacuum without knowing what your soup tastes like and how much it costs. So the answer is "maybe". |
| I think the people who care about not buying canned soup will just make it themselves. The in-between market for "buying" homemade soup isn't huge IMO. Also I would think its a pretty low profit margin because even the freshly made soups you see at whole foods and giants hot bar/prepared food section is fairly cheap. You would have to push ALOT of soup to make any money. |
| Yes, but the rest of my family does not. |
| I think the hassle you will have to go through to get your home kitchen inspected and approved for the use of selling food will not in any way be worth the amount of soup you can actually sell. People can get it hot at Panera or off the shelf and frankly, it's not hard enough to make for me to justify paying someone else a premium for a small amount of theirs when I could make a whole pot for minimal money and effort. |
| Love soup, but only if I make it. |

I LOVE soup.
To answer your question OP -- if it were great and convenient...yes, I'm always looking for places to buy it when I don't make it. The Post always writes about "Soup Girl" I think in Takoma. Never had it but it sounds good. You might want to benchmark against them if still in business. I work near Foggy Bottom and there was a great low cal soup place run by some French woman that was great. It lasted 2 years (near 21 +L). I think the rent was too expensive and not enough people liked low cal soup. I'm sorry I don't remember the name. |
| This is OP. I have a very low calories, few ingredients delicious lentil soup recipe that people love and tell me to sell. I never thought i could make profit out of it but Glens Market said they would be happy to stock it for me. I'm wondering if it is worth it to try. |

I would never buy soup. Too much fat/salt and too many fake chemical ingredients.
I love soup and make it at least once a week. I made ham, green bean and bean soup last night. Butternut squash soup is on the menu for this weekend. |
| I love soup! But I also like making soup. I never buy premade soup unless I'm at panera or somewhere like that. |
| Love soup, but find that many people don't. They sort of dislike soup across the board. I buy soups that I can't make such as Asian and Central American seafood soups. I buy those from ethnic restaurants. |
|
I love soup and order from Soupergirl all the time on busy weeks.
But mostly I make it myself. |
Interesting. Will they take your recipe and make it to sell? Unless you're an inspected and certified commercial kitchen they shouldn't be selling product made in your home. |
